J.K. Onassis bought the MATER TERRA Greek Leather Sandals
This photo (1964) portrays Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, the wife of the Greek Tycoon Aristotle Onassis, while shopping. Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis is standing exactly in the same place where MATER TERRA Greek Leather Sandals shop is still located today. Mr. Georgas, who is the man that started off the production of MATER TERRA Greek Leather Sandals’ narrated to us the following:
It was a sunny Sunday in the middle of August at Pandrossou street, in Monastiraki, Athens and everything seemed to be like any other day. Tourists were buying Greek products, eating Greek foods, taking photographs of the Acropolis and having a good time around the historic center of Athens. The streets were full of old beautiful cars and busy Greek business people were competing who will serve the tourists best.
Suddenly, reporters and cameras appeared out of the blue. Back then, the Greek Broadcasting Corporation had only 2 TV channels available and only few people used to have a television set at home. Journalists and reporters, when an important happening would take place, they used to take some notes and then, they had to return to their jobs to spread the news. But on that day, during Jackie Onassis’s visit in Athens, Monastiraki area was full of TV cameras.
The owner of MATER TERRA Greek Leather Sandals welcomes Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.
Mr. Georgas, who is seen in the back of the picture, when realized what was going on, he first welcomed Jackie Onassis who she then bought her fist pair of MATER TERRA Greek Leather Sandals. If he had had a camera, he would most certainly have taken a picture. This photo is a newspaper clipping which Mr. Georgas had kept in his files in order to remember that day.
Today, after 53 years, MATER TERRA Greek Leather Sandals, owned by Mr. Georgas and his father, shares this nice story just to let you know more about our Brand and History.
